SHORT COURSES IN FINANCE EDUCATION

Managers and engineers are also often involved in a company's operating and growth initiatives which require financial analysis. Increasingly, managers and engineers do need an understanding of finance issues and financial concepts associated with opportunity evaluation and new business formation to understand the implications on the company of significant operating, investing and financing decisions. 

Any individual with interest and perseverance can learn about finance by reading and learning on their own. However, it is easier and more effective to condense this learning time frame by taking classes in finance education. These classes give participants an understanding of finance issues and financial concepts associated with opportunity evaluation and new business formation. It will enhance participants’ knowledge and use of financial analytical tools involved in business evaluation and understanding of financial statements. Participants should then be able to:

  • Read, understand and analyse financial and cash flow statements
  • Understand how business decisions and market events affects cash flow, profits and financial position of a business
  • Improve business planning and evaluate forecasts of sales, expenses and income
  • Analyze financial performance of business units
  • Evaluate the value and financial viability of business opportunities
The finance education courses offered are delivered in two three-hourly sessions over two consecutive weeks. Between the two sessions, participants will be asked to complete a practical exercise as context for participants to apply understanding and learning of the relevant finance concepts.
